When you discuss No Kid Hungry South Washington County, here are some key messages you might consider:
When school’s out for the summer, more than 250,000 Minnesota children miss meals and do not get adequate nutrition.
In South Washington County District 833 specifically, one in five kids—many who participate in National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs during the school year—are at risk of being hungry.
The hunger issue is not a resource problem—it's an access problem. There is enough food in our community to make sure all of our students have access to three meals each day.
Fortunately, District 833 has the resources for kids to access more meals all summer long and, in collaboration with Share Our Strength and Second Harvest Heartland, is piloting an innovative and collaborative model that will be refined and used over the course of five years in other school districts throughout Minnesota.
South Washington County District 833 is the first in Minnesota to launch this collaborative “collective impact” model to address child hunger.
No Kid Hungry South Washington County is made possible in part by Share Our Strength, an organization working to end hunger and poverty.
Whether you need a little extra help putting food on the table this summer, or want to learn how you can help make sure all children in our community get the meals they need to thrive—you’re invited to get involved! Visit nokidhungry833.org to learn more.
